The hospital library specialises in the provision of information on mental health nursing and psychiatry

- An extensive collection of over 5,000 psychiatry, psychology and mental health nursing books, official publications and theses.
- An inter-library loan service for journal articles.
- Subscribes to 25 print and electronic journals and 4 electronic article databases.
- Work-related literature searches are carried out using a range of resources.
- A self-service photocopier is located in the library. Copy cards cost €3.00 for 40 images. The library does not have a colour photocopier.
- 2 computers with internet access.
- 1 computer with a catalogue to search the library collection.
- Black & white printer (€0.10 per page)
- A library study room with 1 computer with internet access is available to all staff and students at any time. The regular hospital pass-key opens the door. Located next to the doctors’ residence.
- A catalogue containing the library’s entire collection of books, journals and other publications is available for searching on most computers in SVHF. On computers where it is available a white icon will be on the desktop labelled ‘Heritage Catalogue’.
Borrowing Privledges
Due to the limited size of the library the following rules for borrowing are in place:
Staff may borrow up to 6 books for 4 weeks.
Students may borrow up to 4 books for 3 weeks.
Books may be renewed by phone or email.
Library Committee
The Library Committee meets once a year. Its primary function is to oversee the overall planning of the service. The committee membership represents the main users of the service. The members are as follows:

A return-bin is available in the library hall for anyone returning items outside of hours.
